The Coalition of the Northern Kiithid, also known as the Northern Coalition, was a major geo-political body located on the northern part of Kharak. Its capital is Tiir.
Background[]
The Coalition was an confederate-like state composed by several Kiithid, and governed by the Great Daiamid.
History[]
The Coalition, de facto was born initially at the climax of the Heresy Wars, when Kiith Naabal intervened to put an end to the devastating conflict. They forced all other Kiiths to join their unnamed coalition in exchange for sharing their knowledge with them. That unnamed alliance became the origin of the Coalition. However this one wasn't officially founded until 717 KDS, when Kiith Gaalsien destroyed the defenses against the sands which protected the city of Saju-ka. The city was buried in the sand, and the Gaalsien became an exiled and outlawed Kiith. Several other northern Kiithid worked together to assist Saju-Ka refugees and defend themselves against kiith Gaalsien's raids.
After these raids ceased, the Coalition became a system of trade and commercial connections which banded together all northern Kiith, to prevent another conflict between them.
350 years later, in 1057 KDS, the sands and storms threatened to invade Kharak's North Pole. The only solution, Project StormBreaker, was so enormous than only the combined efforts of the northern kithid can build it... and specifically protect it, against the renewed Gaalsien raids, which tried to destroy it, as it was against their ultra-orthodox interpretation of kharakid scripture, beginning the Desert Wars. In 1106 KDS , The Coalition, which had greatly advanced thanks to the rescue and study of small orbital wrecks of Exiled ships, launched a series of long range sensor satilites which inadvertantly discovered the Khar-Toba, or "Primary Anomaly", located far intothe Great Banded Desert of the planet, and became obsessed with reach it. The same year, they launched Operation Skaal Brii, a first science and exploration expedition to investigate the anomaly, but after a month, they lost contact. with the expedition being deemed lost with all hands.
In 1110 KDS, the coalition planned to dispatch a second science expedition, coming into contact with hostile forces. Their plan was to send a great expedition, Operation Khadiim, with five Carrier (Coalition), but 3 months before it was ready, they suffered a mass invasion of the Gaalsiens. Three bases south of the Frontier Wall were lost: Epsilon Base, Charlie Base and Juno Base, With 3 carriers destroyed, and only two managing to depart: The Kapisi and Sakala. The Coalition was on the ropes, even with their capital besieged, but they managed to hold. until the Kapisi, the only survivor after the betrayal by the Sakala and it's commanding officer, captain mashaad sidiim , managed to complete the mission, Putting an end to the Desert Wars and launching Kharak to a new age.[1]
The Coalition, except for those aboard the Kushan Mothership, was destroyed in the Kharakian Genocide. However, most of their Kiiths survived and resettled on their homeworld of Hiigara. There, they recreated the daiamid, and their newly founded state was clearly inspired in the Coalition's image.
Inner Workings[]
The Coalition has a simple organization: The Daiamid is the only central government, but every Kiith governs himself and his territory as they saw fit. Every one has his own way of life and resources, with some Kiith have specialities which they perform almost exclusively: Kiith S'Jet possesses the best scientists. Kiith Soban were nomadic mercenaries which loan their military expertise. KIIth Naabal held the best diplomats and engineers. Kiith Hraal were advanced manufacturers, and Kith Manaan, also nomads, the best merchants and explorers.
Kiithid of the Coaltion[]
The Coalition, despite its name, apparently encompassed almost all known Kiith of the planet, both from North and South Poles, except for Kiith Gaalsien and the Khaaneph.
Locations of the Coalition[]
The Coalition's maps showed at least ten cities only in their northern territory, but only some locations' names are known:
- Tiir (capital)
- Epsilon Base (destroyed)
- Charlie Base (destroyed)
- Juno Base (destroyed)
- The Boneyard (abandoned).
Military[]
The Coalition likely did not have an entirely unified military per se: with each Kiith having their own armed forces and desert Carriers, and though all worked together, theorically, and have members of other Kiithid in their armed forces, every Kiith's forces respond mainly to their Kiith and it's Kiith-Sa. However, all information and, likely, technology, were shared between them. so their forces are all of similar characteristics, and common designs, like the Sakala-class Carrier and it's ifrit class predecessor.
Though this is not always the case, as despite their coalition membership, Kiith Soban possesses their own proprietary modifications or variations upon standard coalition designs, used when kiith soban acts using it's independent armed forces. this is seen most prominently on their command carriers, battlecruisers, support cruisers, baserunners. which feature some minor cosmetic differences, and major deviations in standard armaments. With their carriers and capital class ships sporting railguns instead of point defence autocannons or traditional heavy cannon turrets respectively. The Coalition military units also lacked any common paint scheme. Instead, each Kiith used their own: Kiith S'Jet used the yellow, Kiith Sidiim, the black, and the Soban, the red.
Their inexperience in deep deserts deeply affected their initial attempts to fight there, forcing them to adapt quickly. Several Kiithid design and manufacture all class of weaponry, and the more successful ones are bought by other Kiithid.
It must be noted than, along Kiith Soban, Kiith Siidim was almost the cornerstone of the Coalition military during the Desert Wars, with his troops being the most aggresive and ruthless against their former enemy, the Gaalsien.
