Rachel S'jet is the Chief Science Officer of the Coalition of the Northern Kiithid's expedition to investigate the Jaraci Object deep in the Great Banded Desert, and a main protagonist of the Desert Wars.

She is also partially motivated by a desire to locate her missing brother, Jacob, who vanished in the first expedition to the Primary Anomaly.[1][2]

Personal History[]

Rachel S'jet was a brilliant scientist, until the loss of her brother changed her life dramatically. Obsessed with finding him, or at least uncover what happened to him, she joined the Coalition military, training for years to become a scout specialist. Using influences and her talents, she was assigned to the Carrier (Coalition) Kapisi. During a ceremony previous to the Kapisi launch, she met the Sakala's captain, which gave her the impression to be arrogant and unfriendly.

Her carrier departed from Epsilon Base right before Kiith Gaalsien attacked it.

After the Kapisi reached Cape Wrath, she personally led the exploration of Jacob's Carrier wreck, the Ifriit-Naabal, recovering data and an advanced technological device.

On a later date, she infiltrated into the Gaalsien Base, where she recovered key intel about The Exile and her brother, data which led the Kapisi to the Torin Crater. While the Kapisi and Sakala made a resupply stop, she led a reduced advanced force to the Crater.

Rachel played a critical role in the eventual defeat of the and Gallsiens and their former allies-turned-betrayers the Kiith Siidim, who both sought possession of the Jaraci Object and with it access to the fabled site of Khar-Toba. The Sakala raced south, attempting to kill or capture her at Torin Crater to seize the weapon, but her group held the attackers long enough to allow the Kapisi to arrive, annihilating the Siidium.

Having discovered her brother's self-sacrifice in acquiring an ancient orbital Taiidan weapon to ensure their enemies never reached the long-lost city, and finding his mortal remains aboard the Taiidan (ship) wreck, Rachel secured the weapon, an orbital weapons satellite to destroy their enemies before finally discovering Khar-Toba, the first city of Kharak. On the last known battle of the Desert Wars, she led the exploration of Khar-Toba while directing the orbital weapon, which resulted in the total defeat of the Gaalsiens.

Role in Khar-Toba Discovery[]

The success of the costly expedition would eventually ensure the Kushan's return to outer space, and unlock the true origins of their people. The role of Rachel in the discovery was great, as her Baserunner made the scans that led to the rediscovery of the long-buried Khar Toba, the First City of Kharak. According to the Homeworld Historical and Technical Briefing guidebook, the initial expedition left after unearthing Khar-Toba's power plant and hyperspace module. A small team of archeologists who remain on site made the landslide discovery of the Guidestone in 1135 KDS.

The discovery of the powerplant and hyperspace module was considered the gem of ancient Khar-Toba ... the old city was left in the hands of a few dedicated Archaeologists ... Led by a young woman named Mevath Sagald ... Accidents left her to excavate the site nearly single-handedly, but when she opened the inner chamber she recognized immediately the full import of what she found, etched on a single piece of black stone.

After Operation Khadiim[]

Somewhere between 1110 KDS and 1159 KDS, Rachel became the Kiith-Sa of Kiith S'jet. After the Guidestone's discovery, she proposed an audacious project that offered the best hope of survival for the Kushan race: construct a vessel, then use it to return to Hiigara. As all other options were deemed unfeasible, Rachel's Mothership Plan earned the full approval of the Coalition and construction began in the first triad of 1159 KDS.[3]

In-Game Unit[]

In the campaign, Rachel pilots a larger, heavily modified Baserunner. She is a critical unit. Her destruction results in instant game over.

In comparison to a standard Baserunner, Rachel's unit has the following differences:

  • Significantly tougher: She starts at 10,000 HP, more than twice a standard Baserunner. Additional upgrades make her even tougher. She takes zero damage from the Gaalsien cruise missile.
  • Cannot launch Probes
  • Cannot deploy Defense Turrets
  • Repair beam: Just like a Support Cruiser, Rachel can repair nearby vehicles. There are comparable upgrades for her repair beams.
  • Better weapons: She hits twice as hard but still can't handle heavy combat.
  • EMP Burst: After an upgrade, Rachel can fire an AoE round that disables any enemy vehicle or building caught in the effect.
  • Hack: After an upgrade, Rachel can commandeer enemy vehicles and turrets. This ability comes with a significant resource cost and a long cooldown.
  • Orbital strike: Rachel's penultimate upgrade allows her to operate an orbital ion cannon. A final upgrade allows her to alter the beam intensity at the cost (or in favor of) AoE.

Trivia[]

  • She was voiced by Hayley Sales.[4]
  • It is implied that Rachel is an ancestor of Karan S'jet.
