The Rancor was the Turanic Raider Lord-class Attack Carrier that was ordered by the Taiidan Military to immediately destroy any ships that attempted to leave the Kharak System.

The first ship that caught the attention of its crew was the sub-light drive equipped Khar-Selim. The non-combat support vessel was quickly destroyed. However, the next ship it stumbled upon was the Kushan Mothership. Upon discovering the massive vessel, the Rancor launched waves of starfighters and corvettes to destroy the Mothership, but were repelled repeatedly by Kushan pilots. After losing most of its flight wing, the Rancor recalled its surviving pilots and fled into hyperspace.

During the course of a few weeks, the Rancor eventually engaged the Kushan Mothership in the Great Wastelands, where it launched another massive assault on the fleet, this time with Dagger-class Ion Array Frigates. When the assault failed, the carrier attacked the Mothership head-on along with two frigate escorts, but was critically damaged and attempted to flee in order to warn the Taiidan of the Kushan's presence. However, it fell to the Kushan fleet in its attempt to escape, becoming the first heavy capital ship to be destroyed in the Homeworld War.

[edit] Behind the Scenes

  • The ship got its name from a large dangerous creature in Star Wars which would attack anything in its path.
  • Rancor or "rancour" is a word meaning endless spite or hatred. Given that this vessel was intended to trap the Kushan people in the Kharak System, this is an appropriate moniker.
